The move to leading academic and professional publisher Taylor & Francis Group marks the beginning of a partnership with one of the leading publishers of online journals. In addition to a refreshed design, the latest edition of the BJBS will benefit from a new online platform offering new state-of-the-art features and functionality.

All IBMS members can access the BJBS online and enjoy  a number of new features including; easy to use search; citation search;  related article suggestions; citation, abstract and reference download; simple social media, email and eReader sharing. IBMS members can also set up a personal profile to benefit from new BJBS online features including; article shortlisting and receive new content and citation alerts.

New Editor Dr Blann, aims to make the BJBS increasingly relevant to its global laboratory scientist readership: “The BJBS will focus on research by laboratory scientists for laboratory scientists, ranging from research into the fundamental basis of the pathophysiology of human disease to improving patient outcomes. In addition to covering all the traditional and emergent disciplines in biomedical science, the BJBS will also publish research that encompasses veterinary medicine and the latest developments in industry.”.

“I see the a key role for the BJBS in supporting IBMS members currently undertaking IBMS examinations, in particular the IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma, through the combination of research papers and reviews. I also intend to work closely with the IBMS Specialist Advisory Panels to ensure that suitable articles is highlighted as suitable material for IBMS Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Journal Based Learning exercises.”.

From Spring 2017 the BJBS will feature an annual update summarising major advances in each of the biomedical science disciplines, supporting IBMS members in meeting Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Science Council professional registration requirements to keep up to date with the latest developments in their field.

Contributors will also benefit from a streamlined online article submission process, with Editor, Dr Blann, keen to encourage high-quality original research submissions from the UK and overseas: “The BJBS is truly international Journal.  In 2015 over than half of the Journal’s published articles were from contributors based outside the UK. With the BJBS we aim to provide a platform for the dissemination of new and innovative information on the diagnosis and management of disease that is valuable to the practicing laboratory scientist anywhere in the world.”.
