NHS Scotland Strategy Paper accepted

NHS Scotland Strategy Paper accepted
31 August 2017
The NHS Scotland Shared Services Laboratories Programme Strategy Paper has been accepted

To improve laboratory services delivery across Scotland, the NHS Scotland Shared Services Laboratories Programme Strategy Paper proposes developing a business case to deliver an optimal future service model for laboratories in NHS Scotland.

This strategy paper highlights the need for change through a Distributed Service Model (DSM) which would deliver laboratory services through a network of laboratories. The report explains that these laboratories ‘will be configured to deliver immediate local requirements with opportunities for the consolidation of ‘colder’, low volume and technologically challenging workloads, into a smaller number of centres.’

The Laboratories Strategy paper was accepted with no caveats at the Chief Executives’ meeting this month. The paper received positive feedback with no arguments against moving to the business case for a Distributed Service Model for laboratories.

You can read the paper online. Should you have any questions, contact the business case owner Brian Montgomery or the Laboratories Programme Manager Kim Walker. All other questions can be addressed to NHS Scotland Shared Services Health Portfolio.
