Support European Immunisation Week
24 April 2017
When 1 in 7 children do not have access to essential immunisations, it’s time to make a change

As part of World Immunisation Week, 24-30 April is celebrated across Europe each year as European Immunisation Week, to promote awareness of the importance of immunisations.

It is estimated that at least 10 million deaths were prevented by vaccines between 2010 and 2015, but many children and adults are still missing out on these essential vaccines, which leave them susceptible to life-threatening diseases.

The theme for this year’s campaign is “Vaccines work”, which aims to focus on the need for more immunisations for people across the globe and to promote the benefits of immunisation at every stage of life.

The World Health Organisation and other professional bodies are working this week to educate the public in the importance of getting vaccinations.

This year’s campaign urges people to raise awareness of the importance of vaccines, and encourages people to promote the success of vaccines in saving lives. Here’s what you can do to help:

  • Write a blog post or comment on social media of why vaccines work
  • Engage with your social media connections and help spread the word of this week’s campaign
  • You can follow the events of this week on Twitter by using the hashtags #vaccines #VaccinesWork and #EIW2017
