IBMS members give informative careers talks to university students.

On 8th February, the University of Westminster Biomedical Science Society hosted IBMS members Rena Vartholomis and Lauren Wise to discuss careers in biomedical science. The event was called, Biomedical Sciences Society: Q&A with the Experts!

Biomedical Science Society President Priya Gurung gave an account of the day:

“We had refreshments and goodies laid out for all students. The head of our course, Dr Patrick Kimmitt, gave a small introduction to welcome all students and guests followed by two speakers who gave a 10-15 minute presentation about who they are and the journey of their career to present date.

We then had a very long Q&A session, where the students all asked plenty of questions about career routes, portfolio, training schemes, and alternate careers. Overall, the energy and enthusiasm from the students and guests was incredible”. One of the students who attended said:

''It was a  very enriching event where we gained insight from individuals from the field of biomedical science about what they do day-to-day.“

Priya added, ''It was incredible to see how engaged and enthusiastic all the students and guests were. This event would not have been possible without the help from IBMS, they have been extremely supportive, and easy to contact from day one. I am very thankful.''

The event was a great success, and we are proud to have the University of Westminster Biomedical Science Society as one of 20 IBMS student affiliate societies we work with. To enhance the support we offer our student members the IBMS has developed a package of support and services tailored for university bioscience societies. You can read more here.
