HCPC consults on returning to practice guidance
19 July 2016
The HCPC has launched a consultation on revised Guidance on professionals returning to practice

The draft revised Guidance is an update of existing Guidance which was subject to a public consultation in 2005, and published in 2006. The proposed changes include a restructure of the Guidance to provide clarification on what is meant by ‘practising your profession’ in addition to other aspects of the requirements.

This consultation will be of interest IBMS members who are currently not practising and are considering returning to practice, or are considering a break in their practice in the future. It will also be of interest to employers thinking of employing professionals who are returning to practice.

Michael Guthrie, Director of Policy and Standards, commented:   “We set return to practice requirements to ensure that registrants who have been out of practice for more than two years update their knowledge and skills in order to resume safe and effective practice.   It is important that we remain committed to reviewing existing Guidance to ensure that it is as clear as possible and fit for purpose. We would therefore encourage all our Registrants to respond to the consultation with their views on the proposed amendments. ”   Beginning Monday 18 July, the 12 week consultation runs until Friday 7 October 2016. The updated Guidance is expected to be launched in 2017.   To take part in the consultation, complete an online survey, email consultation@hcpc-uk.org or write to Consultation on revised Guidance on returning to practice, Policy and Standards Department, Health and Care Professions Council, Park House, 184 Kennington Park Road, London, SE11 4BU.
