Apply today to join the IBMS Clinical Chemistry or Virology Advisory Panels

The IBMS Advisory Panels are key to the success of many Institute initiatives. Panel members advise the institute on quality, training, safety, represent the Institute on national committees and work with the IBMS education team to help develop professional qualifications, set exam papers and help organise the scientific lecture programme for IBMS Congress.

There are eight advisory panels covering cellular pathology, clinical chemistry, cytopathology, haematology, immunology, medical microbiology, transfusion science and virology.

Currently there are vacancies on the clinical chemistry and virology advisory panels.

Person specification

Essential

  • Institute Member or Fellow
  • Scientific or managerial experience in chosen speciality/discipline
  • Evidence of liaison with professional and academic contacts
  • Chartered Scientist* or Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

*Non-chartered individuals may be appointed initially as a co-opted member, moving to full membership once chartered.

Desirable

  • Academic experience through employment or part-time lecturing
  • Experience of setting, marking and monitoring professional exams**
  • Experience of facilitating or delivering training

The normal term of appointment will be a four-year period with the option for further re-appointment.  Panel meetings are held in the Spring and Autumn at the Institute.

Appointments will be ratified by the Institute’s Education and Professional Standards Committee based on the recommendations of the appropriate advisory panel.
