IBMS President celebrates accreditation award for Peterborough pathology team

IBMS President joins Peterborough pathology team celebrating full ISO 15189 accreditation across all disciplines.

IBMS President Nick Kirk CSci FIBMS, joined Lord Lindsay, Chairman of the UK Accreditation Service, and staff at Peterborough City Hospital to mark the award of ISO 15189 accreditation.

The Pathology Department at Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded the prestigious ISO 15189 accreditation for quality and competence in medical laboratories from the UK Accreditation Service.

The department is the first pathology laboratory in the country to have achieved the full accreditation across all disciplines.
Members of the 150-strong pathology team based at Peterborough City Hospital were presented with the official certificate of accreditation by Lord Lindsay. Lord Lyndsay and Nick also enjoyed a tour of the laboratory at Peterborough. 
Dr Kanchan Rege, Clinical Director, said: “The team is delighted to have been recognised for achieving such an important standard. It’s testament to their considerable efforts in constantly striving for quality and above all, accuracy, in their work. We will be very proud to display the certificate.”

IBMS President Nick Kirk said: "I would like to congratulate the team at Peterborough on behalf of the Institute. Following on from the recommendations of the Barnes report, Peterborough should be commended for taking this integrated system approach to embracing a quality culture across all disciplines.".
