UK Government creates a standalone Department for Science, Innovation and Technology

The IBMS welcomes the creation of a new Department for Science, Innovation and Technology as part of the Government’s wider reform of Whitehall.

Commenting on the announcement, IBMS Chief Executive David Wells said:

This new Department is an important step in ensuring science remains a top priority for the UK and sends a clear message that the Government is committed to prioritising research and innovation that delivers benefits to people across the country and to the wider economy.

We would urge the new Secretary of State to ensure that scientific experts are placed at the heart of this Department in order to maximise opportunities in health technology and biomedical science that will position the UK at the forefront of science and technology globally.

We would like to congratulate the Rt Hon Michelle Donelan MP on her appointment and look forward to working with her and the Department at what is a critical time for UK science.
