IBMS response to healthcare science draft apprenticeship standards
8 January 2015
The IBMS has released a response to the consultation on healthcare science draft apprenticeship standards.

The standards cover apprenticeships leading to appointment as:-

  • Healthcare Science Assistant – Level 2
  • Healthcare Science Assistant  Practitioner - Level 3
  • Healthcare Science Associate – Level 4

The apprenticeships will apply both to those who are entering healthcare science for the first time, and to those already working in healthcare science who wish to undergo training and development for the next level.  They are intended to align to development and training programmes for levels 2-4 of the MSC Careers Framework and will lead to recognised qualifications for successful applicants.

The draft standards have been developed in consultation with an employer stakeholder group led and co-ordinated by Fletcher Consultancy Limited. HEE are now seeking final comments on the standards before submitting them to the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) for independent approval in February 2015.

The standards conform to BIS requirements for new Trailblazer apprenticeships described in The Future of Apprenticeships in England (October 2014), setting out a high-level description of the knowledge, skills and behaviours required of apprentices to reach the relevant level.

Guidance and other material to support the development of levels 2-4 of the MSC Careers Framework are being developed.
