Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science, an annual day of celebration. It is an opportunity to share the experiences of women and girls across all levels and fields of science across the world.

Here are what some of the IBMS members did over this past year.

Estefania Caamano-Daou RSci said, “Gaining the Registered Scientist status by the recognition of my professional skills from years of practice, has provided me with lots of new opportunities to pursue my career in Science.”

Biomedical Scientist Luminita Maxwell Georgescu, awarded an HSJ EU Staff award at the HSJ 2016 awards, shared: “I am a proud Senior Biomedical Scientist and a proud EU citizen originally from Romania, it does not matter where we are from, working in healthcare is about compassion, devotion and pride.”

STEM Ambassador Victoria Ipindamitan MIMBS, said: “It is always exciting to step out of my day job and represent STEM at events around the country.”

Biomedical scientist Parmi Perera spoke on volunteering at science fairs for students, “We spoke to parents and kids of varying ages and background in the hope of inspiring more and more people to pursue a career in Biomedical Science.”

IBMS Fellow Amardeep Ghattaoraya CSci FIBMS, winner of the Science Council’s CPD award commented, “It’s a case of you actually helping somebody. You’ve got real patients, you know you’ve been part of that wider team.”
