IBMS launch updated benchmark© guidance on Quality Management in Laboratories
23 July 2015
The Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) has published updated benchmark© guidance for quality management in laboratories.

The IBMS sets professional standards and standards of best practice to support and inform commissioners, managers and staff in delivering high quality, safe pathology services.

The recently updated IBMS benchmark© document, Guidance on Quality Management in Laboratories, provides guidance on quality management for those responsible for the management and delivery of laboratory services.

IBMS Deputy Chief Executive, Sarah May CSci FIBMS welcomed the launch of the latest addition to the IBMS benchmark© series: "We recognise the importance of a strong quality culture in delivering a safe, professional service and endeavour to provide clear and relevant support to our members with a responsibility for quality through our IBMS guidance and events. To support laboratory Quality Managers in their role, we have updated one of our key guidance documents: Institute Guidance on Quality Management in Laboratories.

We appreciate that Quality Managers play a key role in the delivery of accredited laboratory services. In recognition of this, we have also developed a micro conference within this year’s IBMS Congress devoted entirely to quality issues.".

The IBMS will also be providing copies of the Institute Guidance on Quality Management in Laboratories benchmark© guidance document to laboratory Quality Managers over the coming weeks.
