These were awarded to the BSc students, Iqra Ellahi (MMU) and Shiza Mahmood (Salford). The IBMS Manchester branch prize was awarded to Haadya Sidra, MMU. Congrats to all students!

BRANCH MEMBER AWARDS

United Kingdom Advancing Healthcare Awards

Danny Gaskin (of NHSBT and the Manchester Branch of the IBMS), with colleagues Selma Turkovic (NHSBT) and Anas Nasir (BMS Viapath UK), won at the 2022 United Kingdom Advancing Healthcare Awards ceremony in London in April.

The award was in recognition of the Biomedical Empowerment and Discussion Group, an education initiative for biomedical scientists, set up in September 2021. The group has over 2,000 registrants, and an average monthly attendance of 120 delegates from across the world.

This is a fantastic initiative providing accessible support and education to Biomedical Scientists via MS Teams on the last Wednesday of every month. Thank you to all the experts, internal & external, who have provided their time to make this such a success.

Michelle Brereton Lifetime Achievement Award

Keith Hyde nominated colleague Michelle for this IBMS Lifetime achievement award.

Keith commented, "It was well deserved. Amongst so many things that could be listed, the few that stand out include Michelle being part of the pioneering team that set up UKNEQAS Morphology Assessment Scheme in 2005. For 10 years, Michelle has been a valuable member of International Committee for Standards in Haematology (ICSH) whilst representing the IBMS and the UK."

Michelle’s dedication to the vision of the IBMS continues and this is demonstrated in her support to not only her IBMS staff members and branch members, but to both the RCPATH and ACB members, by mentoring and demonstrating leadership for all types of trainees.
