IBMS members are commended for their annual Science Council CPD returns.

As a Licensed Body of the Science Council, the IBMS hold three professional registers: Chartered Scientist, Registered Scientist and Registered Science Technician. The Science Council recently introduced a CPD Award for the highest quality returns from the 2014 CPD audit of registrants. It was fantastic, therefore, to be informed that two registrants, Gordon Sutehall at CSci level, and Laura Green at RSciTech level, were invited to receive commendations at the Science Council annual CPD Monitoring workshop held at the British Computer Society on 23rd September 2015.

All Licensed Bodies were invited to nominate CPD returns that were either particularly outstanding, or that were most improved over the audit process. The Science Council received a great breadth of nominations that showed the diverse nature of the work registrants are involved in and the various ways they interact with their workplaces and communities to inspire other people.

Each Licensed Body was invited to nominate two registrants from each of their registers. Of the 27 nominations ultimately received, all were excellent examples of CPD in practice – and made it a real challenge for the judging panel to decide on the winners.

It was decided that the judging panel would select one winner from each register, along with two to three commendations, which would then be taken to the CPD Learning Group for discussion and review, ensuring consistency and transparency.

It was felt by the Science Council that the CPD commendations for Gordon and Laura should be granted owing to “a really strong example of good CPD; comprehensive, thorough and demonstrating a broad range of activity and engagement”.

Christian Burt, Professional Support Services Manager at the IBMS, attended the annual CPD Monitoring workshop with Laura and Gordon and said “I was delighted to participate in this workshop day hosted by the Science Council, which led to plenty of food for thought as to the mentoring of registrants through the Science Council application and CPD review processes. Congratulations to Gordon and Laura on this commendation which I hope can encourage others for their own CPD review”.
