IBMS signs Science Council Declaration on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion
The Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) has taken up the Science Council's challenge of improving diversity within the UK science community by signing up to the Declaration on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion. By becoming a signatory of the Declaration the IBMS has publicly committed to supporting increased diversity and inclusion in the scientific workforce.
The Science Council's Diversity, Equality and Inclusion project aims to raise the profile of the importance of diversity as an issue of concern for professional bodies, and to provide leadership within the sector to increase commitment and investment.
Other signatories of the Declaration on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion include professional bodies from across the science sector. The Declaration centres on a collaborative approach, encouraging shared learning and expertise within the signing organisations.
Tom Blundell, President of the Science Council, spoke at the Declaration's launch earlier today: “The influence and potential leadership of professional bodies means they are critical effectors of change within the science community, by signing the Declaration they are showing that they will use that influence to ensure the science workforce is open to everyone.”
IBMS Chief Executive, Jill Rodney . . . . "The IBMS is ideally placed to support the Science Council's Diversity, Equality and Inclusion initiative, with the Institute’s long held commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion enshrined in both our Code of Conduct and Corporate Strategy. I look forward to working with our members, fellow professional bodies and the Science Council to ensure diversity is firmly on the agenda of the scientific community.".
