SAC Consulting Veterinary Centre approved as IBMS training lab for support staff qualifications
14 July 2014
The SAC Consulting Veterinary Centre can now train laboratory staff for new IBMS support staff qualifications

The SAC Consulting Veterinary Centre in Thurso has been approved by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) as a training laboratory for the IBMS Certificates of Achievements Part I and II.

The IBMS Certificates of Achievement Parts I and II are vocational awards, recently introduced by the IBMS, which cover general laboratory training, including; health and safety, quality, specimen handling and performing standard tests.

The qualifications represent similar levels of achievement as NVQ/SVQ 3 and foundation degrees respectively and all training is carried out by SAC Consulting Veterinary Services staff at their place of work.

Jamie Dyer, Assistant Technician at the Thurso Centre, is already working towards a Certificate of Achievement Part I. He says: This qualification validates the training that I am receiving in order to carry out my day-to-day work.”

Dawn Alderson, SAC Consulting Veterinary Services Functional Manager for Training and Education is keen to promote these qualifications for support staff. She notes that: “The content of the Certificate of Achievement qualifications is generic, relevant to the needs of our business, and allows staff to develop as professional scientists and science technicians.”

Ali Orr, Registrar at the Science Council, added: “Achieving IBMS approval as a training lab gives SAC Consulting’s staff the opportunity to work towards national recognition as Registered Science Technicians and Registered Scientists, raising the skill level of the company and providing professional recognition to its staff.”

Further information can be found on the IBMS website, or by contacting Dawn Alderson.
