Call for volunteers for ‘Meet the Scientist’ workshops

Call for volunteers for ‘Meet the Scientist’ workshops
11 October 2016
This is a call for volunteers for the ‘Meet the Scientist’ workshops on 12-13 November at the Life Science Centre (International Centre for Life in Newcastle)

Calling all volunteers, come get involved with RCPath’s team and help run fun events at their ‘Meet the Scientist’ workshops!

RCPath is looking for volunteers to deliver exciting activities that help educate the public on haematology, biochemistry and cellular pathology. Some of the fun projects include:

  • Running a `Blood and bugs` activity that uses red pompoms and salad spinners to simulate a cross-match test
  • Delivering an activity that explores diagnosis and screening of bowel cancer through `poo` samples
  • Organising a `pin the organ on the model` activity for visitors to find out where the organs are in the body and guess how much they weigh
  • Helping families and children to look down a microscope displaying cells in the body, and encouraging them to draw what they see on an activity wall

During this two day event volunteers will interact with the public and show the vital role of pathologists in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

If you wish to get involved, or know someone who would like to volunteer, please contact amaka.nwagbara@rcpath.org
